Changing your Password
CAS ICT Policy states that passwords must be changed every 180 days (approx six months).
Passwords must be a minimum of 15 characters, including letters in both upper and lower case (ABC/abc), numerals (123), and symbols (!@#).
They cannot include your username, and cannot be the same as any of the last ten passwords.
If your password has not yet expired:
- While at your usual place of work (not at home), connect your device to the network and ensure you can log in normally.
- Press and hold the Ctrl + Alt and Delete button, and select 'Change a Password' from the subsequent menu.
- Type in your current password.
- Choose a new password, and type it in the new password field.
- Enter your password a second time in the Confirm Password field.
- Once your password is changed, lock and unlock your computer, or restart, to ensure the password works.
- You should also immediately update your password on other devices where it is used, such as mobile phones, tablets, and secondary computers. Failure to do so may lead to your account being locked for too many incorrect password attempts.
If your password has expired, or been forgotten
- Call the ICT Helpdesk on 02 9390 5955 for your identity to be verified and to have a temporary password issued.
- Please be prepared to provide basic information to help us validate your identity for security control.
- Once a temporary password is issued, log into your computer normally, with that temporary password.
- Before fully logging in, you will be prompted to set a new password, following the steps above from step #3
If your password is not working, while working remotely.
Call the ICT Helpdesk for advice - you may be required to return to the office so the password can be reset.
